So my roof got damaged and blah blah blah homeowner's insurance, they're sending out people to fix the roof and stuff. One of the subcontractors they sent is this literal mom-and-pop housepainting company that primarily sends out this bro and sis team to do stuff. And I've kind of developed a liking to the sis, so I'm wondering if it's possible to ask her out without coming off like an ultra-weirdo jackass so desperate he'll ask out almost literally anybody who bothers to come by.
UPDATE: Turns out she's already taken, but at least I don't feel like quite a huge jackass about it. I do kind of have to admire a woman who isn't afraid to paint and get her hands dirty while wearing a huge-ass diamond ring.

Just be yourself and try not to over think it.

Honestly, I find being asked out by absolute randoms while at work very uncomfortable.

I guess it depends on the person, my friend got a date by asking some girl at work.

As a matter of ethics, I wouldn't ask someone out at work because it can put them in an awkward position. Better to wait until you're sure there's mutual interest or there's no longer any professional obligations involved.

I've worn my jewelry underneath my welding gloves.

Yup. She's there to work, to do a job. Asking a person out in a situation like that doesn't give them an opportunity to disengage from the situation because.... they're there to work.
